Gradient Mesh

SWEATER

In the Spring of 2020, being in lockdown as many of us, I had more time on my hands, and I spent a good chunk of it knitting! This sweater was knitted then and finished by May 2020.

I went back to my main work in August 2020 and luckily since then, I’ve been quite busy.

While I knit a new design I also write at the same time its instructions, for the size I’m making, which often is my size! The main reason why so long time has passed from the completion of the garment and the publication of its instructions is that I wanted to include as many as possible sizes and calculating other sizes and yarn quantities used is quite a consuming task, that required time and concentration. So I postponed it a few times. Then I have it tech edited by Frauke Urban and tested by experienced knitters.

Then here I am, at the beginning of the winter central month, launching Gradient Mesh - sweater! And finally, I can wear it, as so far I kept it out of sight!

This sweater is a unisex garment and is based on a triple-square motif, which highlights a beautiful gradient of 8, 9 or 10  shades of Milarrochy Tweed (depending on the size) across a neutral background or vice versa. The Gradient Mesh set of beanie and gauntlets, published in Colour Moves, is featuring a doubled-square motif; in this design, I chose to use a bigger allover repeat. I was very fond of the result of the Gradient Mesh set of beanie and gauntlets and that’s why I wanted a matching sweater!

The construction is very simple and a bit constrained by the pattern motif, as I wanted it to flow as smoothly as possible along the garment, especially on the body. In fact, the garment doesn’t have any back neckline shaping, nor any shaping on the back bottom hem, because they wouldn’t fit into the colourwork pattern.

You can find the Gradient Mesh pattern in Klakladesigns’ shop and on Ravelry.

Happy knitting!

Bye for now!

Claudia
