Onde

Hi all,

It has been a while since my last post. I’ve been quite busy with my main work and only recently I finally finished to write the instructions of a pattern I designed during the first months of the UK lockdown.

The new pattern is a shawlette. This accessory was inspired greatly by the yarn I bought in the last yarn festival I went to before the Covid-19 pandemic struck our lives! In February 2020 I went to the Unravel Festival at Farnham Malting (Surrey, UK) and bought a skein of a fingering weight yarn in shade The Arborist, hand-dyed by Lola of Third Vault Yarns. In my design, I wanted to combine the feeling coming from the colours, with the feeling coming from the stitches. The beautiful, pastel colours of the yarn reminded me of sea colours and I wanted to have a texture that replicated small waves; a series of ripples on the water surface, triggered by a spring light breeze.
I set up the ‘ripple’ motif using different number of wraps. The ‘ripple’ motif is alternating from the previous section to add an extra wavy effect, which is also amplified by the self-stripe yarn. I also integrated a lace border on the left hand side of the right side of the shawlette to give another gentle wavy movement. I called the design ‘Onde', which means ‘waves’ in Italian. The fabric results in soft and gentle flows.

The pattern instructions include written instructions, chart, schematic, sketch and photos.

It was a pleasure once again to work together with Frauke Urban, who is responsible for techediting of Onde.

The pattern instructions are available in digital form on Klakladesign shop and on Ravelry.

Happy knitting everyone! :)
