Sirente

Travelling (both for work and fun) also continually feeds my imagination. Often, it amazes me to find such close connections between local landscapes and people, their textiles and their crafts. I have experienced this epiphany very strongly in places like Peru and Mexico and most recently, in Shetland. In Colour Moves collection, you'll find inspiration from my travels in designs like Sirente

This design was inspired by textiles and carpets I admired during my travels in Peru. As well as finding Peruvian designs and patterns incredibly inspiring, I feel a deep personal sense of connection to its rocky, mountain landscape, which reminds me of my Abruzzo birthplace, and its characteristic peaks, such as Sirente, from which this design takes its name.

This pattern creates a fairly large fitting pair of mittens, as I tried in my collections to include all the possible adult hand sizes. However, as shown here modelled by Fenella, they can be comfortably worn by smaller hands over a hand-knitted lining or another pair of mitts or gloves, to create a cosy outer layer.

With Sirente too I had fun to play with different palettes, which are included in the charts and shown here too.

In the last photo just a little glimpse of how Peru could hugely inspire knitters. I may talk more about my travel to Peru and its inspirations in another post later.
