Velino

Today Colour Moves’ design is another set called Velino, with a slouch and a matching pair of mitts.

My other source of inspiration are landscapes and Velino patterns have been named from a mountain very familiar to me. Above my birth town of Avezzano (in the Italian region of Abruzzo) sits the mountain of Velino, standing at 2,487 m high. Away from my familiar environments, the memories of Velino didn’t fade, instead I felt an urgency to knit something tangible from those memories.

In winter Velino is frequently capped with snow and in summer, the rocks that cover its surface gleam in the sunlight, rough and white. A particular beautiful view of Velino can be enjoyed from the roman archeological site of Alba Fucens, as you can see in the photo below.

The colour and texture of this hat and mitts set recalls the mountainous landscape of my childhood.

I guess that many knitters can relate to this kind of inspiration source!

Velino designs have been knitted in Kiloran shade of KDD Àrd-Thìr yarn, which is an aran-weight blend of 60% Peruvian highland wool and 40% Alpaca, very soft, warm and a great pleasure to knit with.

As already said, in Colour Moves collection you'll find 17 individual accessory designs, in two beautiful (and very different) KDD yarns: fingering-weight Milarrochy Tweed and Aran-weight Àrd-Thìr

Come back tomorrow to discover which will be the new Colour Moves pattern!
