PATTERN NOTES
It is a bottom up slightly oversized sweater with oversized dropped sleeves and allover colourwork and a generous neck opening. The borders (charted) are in garter stitch. The bottom border is split, so it is worked in two halves and then joined in the round at the beginning of the colourwork.
The motif is charted, and it has a large repeat. It produced rows of fish, half-shifted from one row to the other. There are 4 contrasting shades that alternate regularly. The gradient moves from darker to lighter shades and then back to darker shades, which gives it a smoother tonal transition. The full sequence of the shades is charted too.
Following the chart, the sweater is worked in the round to the underarms. Then armscye steeks are added, followed by another steek for the neckline shaping, and the sweater body is worked up to the shoulders, whose stitches are then seamed. After reinforcing and cutting the armscye steeks, sleeve stitches are picked up around the armscye. The sleeves are worked from the top down, with no decreasing as I want the allover pattern flowing along them keeping the whole motif repeat with no break or mutilation. However, for the sleeves there is a second chart, mirroring the body chart and going in the opposite direction to enhance the dancing movement of fish’s shoal. After reinforcing and cutting the neck steek, the stitches are picked up around the neck opening and the border will be worked around the neckline in garter stitch.
